Life Skills - Level 2

Learning Life Skills

Level 1 : Level 2 : Level 3

Level Two is less structured. More personal freedoms have been earned, as more life skills have been attained. Students continue to build positive relationships through peer group meetings, personal growth classes, workshops and wilderness trips. These activities also encourage teamwork, independence and recovery from negative emotional issues.

A significant aspect of Level Two concentrates on developing people skills and life skills. We help them connect and develop an affiliation with peers as they improve their own sense of identity. Many of our students have either experienced unhealthy connections or have been isolated, with little understanding in the development of healthy alliances. For these young adults, emotional growth is a must. For this reason we teach them behaviors that foster rapport with their peers and provide activities to maintain successful bonds of friendship. Students may date at this level, which for many, brings up old failures and negative patterns. Thus, we coach them on finding solutions and resolutions to these issues. From a human level, these life skills prove an invaluable resource.

Applying Life Skills

Our students learn the value of volunteerism. This is an excellent way for them to learn work and life skills by volunteering their time at organizations such as the Salvation Army, P.A.W.S., The American Cancer Society and Goodwill Industries.

Future Life Skills

At this level, students begin to discover themselves and define their future employment goals. They learn how to prepare a resume and how to interview properly. Our counselors teach budgeting of time and money. After learning these valuable life skills, students will acquire part-time jobs in industries such as automotive, retail and restaurants. They equip themselves with additional community skills, such as learning how to navigate public transportation and how to drive a car. These life skills and activities further bolster the students emotional growth.

All that was established during Level One must be maintained. New challenges are given and must be successfully completed before they can move up to Level Three.
